The challenge
Lumen's players in Korea, Japan and Southeast Asia were reaching the in-game store and leaving at payment. Many did not use international cards, and those who did saw frequent declines on small-value purchases.
Opening more payment options also opened more fraud vectors. The team had seen chargebacks rise sharply the last time it added a market without new controls.
The solution
Lumen added local wallets and bank-based methods through Payment Methods, shown by market and ordered by local usage. The integration used one API, so each new market was a configuration change rather than a project.
Fraud Shield scores each purchase before authorisation, using device and account history. Rules were tuned by market during the first month, then left largely alone.
Local wallets were the unlock in Korea and Japan. Fraud Shield kept chargebacks flat while we grew.
