Interchange

A fee paid by the acquirer to the card issuer on each card transaction.

Interchange is set by the card schemes and varies by card type, region, transaction type and whether the card is present. Cross-border and commercial card transactions usually carry higher rates than domestic consumer debit.

It is typically the largest component of a merchant's card processing cost, and it is passed through to the merchant directly under Interchange++ pricing.
