Merchant of record
The legal entity that sells to the customer and is responsible for the transaction.
The merchant of record appears on the cardholder's statement, collects and remits sales taxes, and handles refunds and chargebacks. It carries the liability for the sale.
Some businesses use a third party as merchant of record in markets where they do not want to register for tax or set up a local entity.
